Most years we finish up our hot meal program in late September, but this year we have continued to support workers and their families with a weekly Wednesday meal through October and into November. During October, we served 324 meals “to go” for pickup curbside or limited delivery to farm labor housing at local orchards.
Grape harvest and hemp harvest activities kept many workers fairly busy until a snow storm and severe freeze hit on October 25. Agricultural workers now have fewer opportunities for employment. Some work is available in clean up and processing juice and other products. A number of local orchards will start pruning fruit trees late in November.
