In this time of tremendous challenge and uncertainty, your gift to CMS is especially helpful. Local farmworkers have been greatly impacted by COVID-19 and by the devastating hard freeze that hit local orchards in mid-April. Your contribution will help us to reach out to workers and their families in a spirit of caring, kindness and mutual support.
CMS provides essential services to essential workers. During our state’s Stay at Home Order, farmworkers continued to perform the vital work that keeps food on our tables. CMS did not close its doors and still remains open to connect workers to community resources, including local health care providers for medical and dental assistance. We’re also offering emergency food, personal care items and other basic assistance to families who have lost income due to the COVID-19 situation. We have also started a collaboration with MarillacHealth to offer telehealth video conferencing at CMS between farmworkers and Marillac service providers.
Perhaps most important, the workers and their families know that there are people at CMS they can trust, who will offer them understanding and encouragement.
We look forward to the day (as yet undetermined) when we will return to our normal routine at the Hospitality Center (el Centro de Hospitalidad) and our members may enjoy a hearty home-style meal, learn new words in English, socialize with each other and engage in holiday and other celebrations. Until then, we will wear our masks and keep our distance as we provide essential services to the people who are so important to the vitality and well-being of our community.
