Our celebration of Christmas and International Day of the Migrant was held on December 15 at Central High School. More than 200 people attended the event, which included a reading of the Grand Junction City Council’s Proclamation of December 18 as International Day of the Migrant. We partnered with several other nonprofit organizations and the Migrant Education Program to offer food, music, presentations and a special visitor from the North Pole. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible!
In September we celebrated the end of the summer harvest season with food, music and a dance performance at Veterans Memorial park in Palisade.
See the section on the Annual Benefit Concert for some great photos from this year’s “Celebrate the Hands That Harvest/Las Manos Que Cosechan” event featuring the music of Quemando at Grande River Vineyards in Palisade.
Spring and early summer celebrations were fun, too! We had a full house celebrating Día del Niño on April 30. About 70 kids and parents joined us for a puppet show presented by Mesa County Libraries, as well as a meal, games and book and bike give-aways. We appreciate the nice children’s bicycles and helmets donated by Rapid Creek Cycles.
Our celebration of Día de las Madres on May 9 honored and pampered mothers. We had a great meal, games, presentations and a few surprises! Thank you to the generous people who provided decorations and gifts for the occasion. We have many more photos of both events on Facebook.
We observed Father’s Day with a special meal, gifts for the dads and a bicycle raffle (giveaway) in June. We’re grateful for the high-quality refurbished bicycles we have received for adults and kids from the Recycle Bicycles program and other donors. CMS often receives requests from workers for bicycles to use for transportation to work and around town.
