Meet the Directors of the Board and CMS Staff. All directors are volunteers and the board meets on the fourth Tuesday evening of each month. Jeffrey Howard, President
Retired; RN at St. Mary’s Hospital, 25 years; Orchard Mesa Gun Club Board of Directors.

Rob Scribner, Vice President
Retired; staff psychiatrist Veterans Administration Hospital. Town doctor in Green River, Utah during the early 1970s, then family doctor in Seattle area 1975- 1987. Palisade Sunrise Rotary Club volunteer and St. Ann’s Church volunteer.Retired business owner: Vistas & Vineyards B&B; Volunteer for Colorado Discover Ability.

Jennifer Murrell, Secretary
Adult Programming Librarian, Mesa County Libraries; History Alive! Colorado West Chautauqua Board Member; Aging and Disability Resources for Colorado Board Member.

Felix Iovanni, Treasurer
Retired business owner: Vistas & Vineyards B&B; Volunteer for Colorado Discover Ability.

Bruce Talbott
Fruit Grower; Mesa County Farm Bureau; Member of First Baptist Church; Volunteer at East Orchard Mesa Fire Department.

Joan Levy
Retired; 35 years in senior positions at Mesa Developmental Services (now STRIVE) including Director of Residential Services; volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels and Agape Food Bank; Fruita Trails host.

Peg Martinez
Administrative Client Coordinator, self-employed. 40 years experience working in the Latino community, including positions as public school family liaison, community service coordinator and outreach/community health worker for migrant farmworkers and their families. Volunteer ESL teacher for Mesa County Libraries, former board member of El Grupo Vida and Advisory Council Member of PAMI.

We extend deepest gratitude to Mille Slagle for her years of service on the CMS Board of Directors! In 2020, she became Treasurer. Millie recently stepped down from her board position, but continues to extend support to CMS through her continuing leadership role with the Mesa County Migrant Ministry Thrift Shop.

We are also grateful to Rod Sharp for his generous assistance to CMS during his board membership. Rod left his board position in September due to expanded responsibilities at Wells Fargo.

Applications are being accepted for board membership. The board meets the fourth Tuesday of each month, from 6-8 pm.


Karalyn Dorn, Executive Director

Karalyn’s 20+ years of professional experience in the field of human services includes administration, case management, community outreach, volunteer recruitment, job development, fundraising and program coordination. She has lived and worked in Latin America, including a two-year stint as Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala, and is fluent in Spanish.

Laura Cardenas, Office Coordinator and Community Health Worker

We welcome Laura to CMS as Office Coordinator. Laura is bilingual and bicultural and brings a wonderful variety of talents and skills, as well as proven dedication to serving the Latino community. She will utilize her skills in office management as well as perform community outreach, case management and provide assistance with troubleshooting everyday challenges that arise.

Our other Community Health Worker team member is Maria Frausto, a multi-talented person who currently doubles as CMS’ cook for the hot meals program and the tamales project.

María’s many talents include preparing delicious meals from scratch. She has prepared hearty, home-style meals beloved by CMS clientele as well as tamales for CMS’ on-going fundraising project.
